Summer is here...and so is the end of the academic year at WOLBI

Summer is definately here in Ontario...the last few days have been almost 25 - 30 degrees with high humidity. It's great fun just sitting in your sweat (our dorm rooms are like our own private saunas!)! And tomorrow's our last day of classes (and it's mostly exams!) for this year as well as a few farewells although the majority of students are planning on working at the WOL camp this summer here on campus so many of us still have a few more months to survive each other :). But before then both Maressa and I are Alberta bound! We'll be spending the two weeks of our break with my family (and Marcelo is also flying up from Californian to spend 10 days with Maressa)! We're both so excited for it. I'm excited to catch up with a lot of you guys again for the short time we're out there!

MarIssy travels Southern Ontario with "Living Praise"

We just sang together as a the girls portion of the "Living Praise" travel team the last time this past Sunday. Starting in November, breaking for snow camp, and then traveling most of our weekends in this spring quarter we have seen a good chunk of Southern Ontario as well as had the opportunity to minister in many different churches
.

Most of our traveling was headed up by our fearless leader: Jonathan Ward and we usually travled along with the guys vocal group (although a few weekends we did go our separate ways) and also a few of the members of the drama team. We drove anywhere from 12 to 5 hours on most weekends and many of them spent billeted out at different houses. Our minstry varied doing everything from youth events and a banquet to regular morning and evening church services. Our main purpose was not to promote the Bible institute but rather to minister God's Word and Message through singing, drama, testimony, and teaching.

It was a really neat experience for both of us and although it had it's stressful moments, just like all ministry it had it's great joys and blessings. It was bittersweet to sing together for the last time this past Sunday!

MarIssy Goes To New York City :)

This past Easter weekend (way back at the beginning of April - yes, I know we are behind...) we both had the opportunity to fly down to New York City. We met up with Andrew (attending PBU in Philadelphia) and Marcelo was supposed to fly from California (where he's attending BIOLA) to meet us but his plane was delayed indefinately and his plans had to change last minute. We had an awesome 3 days down there touring the city (we packed a ton of stuff into our time - check out "Photos") and Marcelo was able to change his flight to come up to Canada for a week after we got back...everything worked out in the end (I guess all our stressful planning was worth it :) )

JAMAICA --- JAMAICA --- JAMAICA --- JAMAICA --- JAMAICA --- JAMAICA --- JAMAICA --- JAMAICA --- JAMA

2 weeks and 119 pictures later (make sure to check them out!)and we're finally finished updating our Jamaica trip! Now...just to write a summary of our trip (that's the impossible part!).

It was a really neat experience in which we were involved in a whole variety of different ministries. We visited a total of 18 different public schools, orphanages, and nursing homes as well as put on 2 evening open air events, went to 1 prayer meeting, did 1 youth event, and 4 church services.

While neither of us experienced any major culture shock, it was a very different culture than what we're used to. It's a very poor country but they are a very formal people - more often than not, even when we tried to dress up we felt under-dressed. They do not run by the clock as we are so used to. In some situations, an hour after the event started was not yet late - you're only late if you miss the entire event. It was actually refreshing to get away from the crazy schedules we run by. The Jamaican people are very open to the Gospel - something that was so encouraging to see because our cultures have strayed so far from any interest in Biblical things. So we had a lot of opportunites to share the Gospel message with all different age groups.

The kids in the schools and orphanages loved us instantly and were very responsive to the message we shared with them. There were about 110 salvations (only God really knows!) and the majority of them were kids.

Well, it would take a book to write about our experiences and how God was working in Jamaica - we don't have the time or the ambition to write that book :) but there are 119 pictures (and a picture is worth a thousand words, right?) so we'll have to let the pictures tell the stories.

Thanks so much for all you who supported us both financially and also through prayer. We couldn't have done it  without you standing behind us! Thanks so much!

Just a small glimpse...

...This is mostly for those impatient people who keep on emailing asking for pictures from our trip. We haven't had time to finish going through all our pictures (...hopefully Monday...) but these are just a couple of them:

We are leaving today (Saturday, March 24) with our touring singing team to minister to a couple of churches in the Niagra area. Also traveling with us is the guys singing team and a few from the drama team (about 12 of us in total). We'll be back late Sunday night and will be putting on a total of 4 programs (Youth outreach, sunday morning services, and and even service)...please keep us in your prayers...

(Keep checking for more Jamaica updates...hopefully we'll be able to get it done soon...)
